Rapid Response Plan to be implemented next week to deal with Midge Infestation

GREAT BAY (GIS) - Commissioner responsible for Public Health Franklin Meyers, says that a rapid response plan will be implemented next week to deal with the midge infestation.
Meyers met with Curacao-based entomologist Gisette Seferina working at the Public Health department of the Island territory of Curacao on Friday regarding the infestation of midges.
Consultation sessions took place on Friday with representatives from the Hygiene & Veterinary Department, Sector Director of Health Care Affairs and Harrigan Exterminators during the morning hours regarding intervention measures and an integrated approach to dealing with the problem. Entomologist Seferina also provided additional information about the midges.
Field trips also took place on Friday to effected and breeding areas. Entomologist Seferina will complete an advice for the Executive Council on Saturday prior to returning to Curacao and this plan will be executed immediately to ensure a rapid response.
Additional information will be provided via the media after the weekend regarding the rapid response plan with respect to the type of measures to be taken and in what areas.
