CUL DE SAC - Emilio Wilson Estate Foundation will host its Awareness Day in Emilio Wilson Cultural and Historical Park on Wednesday starting at 5:00pm. The evening in the park aimed at highlighting the estate’s important place in the island’s history was postponed from Saturday due to inclement weather and the soggy park grounds.
A walk from Le Grand Marché supermarket to the park was to precede the awareness evening; however, the foundation board decided in an emergency planning meeting on Sunday to cancel the walk as it would be inconvenient on Wednesday, because rush hour traffic would have to be disrupted.
The board also decided to hold the awareness evening on that day as children would be in the middle of their mid-term break and other persons could head to the park for dinner and listen to the informative speeches and entertainment.
The organisers hope to maintain as many as possible of the original speakers and entertainment which featured the Ebony Youth Orchestra, Freedom Fighters and speakers French side historian Danielle Jeffrey, community activist Dwight Barran and estate researcher Andre Patrick.
The money raised by this activity will be the start of the foundation’s collection to achieve its goal of buying the estate to preserve it for the island’s people, present and future generations.
The board invites the general public to spend the evening in the park, learn about the historical sites on the estate and listen to stories about persons connected to the estate such as One Tété Loeke, a heroic slave woman, as told by storyteller Papa Umpo.
