BASSETERRE (SKNIS) - A youth committee has been formed under the purview of Small Islands Voice (SIV) to assist Kennedy Pemberton and Fadil Imo with preparations for the Mauritius Global Sustainable Development Meeting as well as follow-up activities.

The committee was assembled by Messrs. Pemberton and Imo who attained the opportunity to represent the youth of the St. Kitts & Nevis when they won the Small Islands Voice essay competition. In their essays they discussed and addressed the statement: “Evaluate the environmental challenges and implications for the sustainable future of Small Island Developing States.”

The youth committee headed by Pemberton and Imo will not only plan programmes related to sustainable development but will execute them as well. Falling in line with SIV’s mandate, the objective of the committee is to voice the concerns of youth specifically and in extension the wider general public on environmental issues and sustainable development at the national, regional and global level.

The members of the committee are Samal Duggins, Nigel Browne, Cindy DeSuza, Claricia Langley, Ozbert France, Terrance Martin, Dominic Matthew, Michelina Charles-Mills, Joven Wyatt, Chantel Pemberton and Rennetta Boyd, a US Peace Corps Volunteer who will serve as a technical advisor.

The committee wishes to thank local UNESCO National Commission Secretary General Antonio Maynard, the SIV Committee and members of the Back Chat youth group for their patience, assistance and support.
