Commissioner Laveist says workers wealth can be improved
by SxmGIS

GREAT BAY (GIS) – Commissioner responsible for Labour & Social Affairs Louie Laveist, says that the wealth of the working class can be improved through enhanced knowledge, learning and opportunity.

Commissioner Laveist added that the upgrading of workers on the job is essential in order to inspire and motivate employees to achieve at work.

“In every sector of our growing economy, it is a necessity of every employee to have a certain level of knowledge, learning and opportunity in order to attain success. If our economy is to continue to grow in order to meet the demands of our nation, employers and employees must continue to work together in order to grow together.

“Businesses have a responsibility towards their employees of stimulating the workforce by investing in their workers. Employees are accountable to the workplace where they must be entrepreneurial in order to meet high productivity levels.

“As our nation moves towards country status, employers need to look at new ways to motivate employees in order to make our nation more productive and be able to maintain a competitive lead when one looks at other competing destinations.

“Some of the things that should be taken into consideration are, tying company profits to personal economic welfare. The workplace has a responsibility of appreciating the value of a knowledgeable staff, developing a knowledge environment etc. Training and retraining of the staff is essential,” Commissioner Louie Laveist told the Government Information Service (GIS) on Tuesday.

Commissioner Laveist extends congratulations to the 18 employees at Bobby’s Marina who recently received certificates after successfully completing a workshop on productivity.

The employees were also given additional tools that they could use to perfect their trade.

Areas covered during the workshop ranged from causes and effects of absenteeism, factors affecting and influencing productivity and improving productivity.
