Schools armed with St. Maarten flags to celebrate National Day on November 11th

PHILIPSBURG - The St. Maarten day celebrations committee, under the leadership of the Commissioner of Culture Hyacinth Richardson, presented St. Maarten flags to the various schools on the Island of St. Maarten and to the Executive Council of St. Maarten on Thursday morning.
The flags were donated by Office World which was represented by Mr. Naresh Daryanani at Thursdays presentation.
The St. Maarten flags which were presented to school representatives, will be distributed as part of the preparations, now on going, for St. Maarten day celebrations on the 11th of November.
This years Celebration of St. Maarten day is being viewed as a special occasion for the island as it marks the 50th celebration of St. Maarten anniversary.
Rosy Richardson the designer of the St. Maarten flag was also present on Thursday morning. She expressed great appreciation for the support that she has received from the St. Maarten community.
She was also congratulated for her work as the designer of the St. Maarten flag by the Culture Commissioner who also reveled that there are efforts being made to change the design of the Flag as we approach Country status.
however he firmly made it known that he is of the opinion that the design of the flag should remain the same. More can now be heard from the Commissioner, Hyacinth Richardson who was introduced by Mr. Cedric Peterson of the GIS.
