CASTRIES – Condor Airways has announced that it is already planning to service Saint Lucia throughout the summer of 2010.

At present Condor is only contracted to fly to Saint Lucia every Sunday, until April next year, but the German- based airline says Saint Lucia is one of its most prized destinations in the Caribbean.

Condor's North American representative, Petra Kelsey, says she expects the Saint Lucia tourism industry to benefit immensely from the direct flight between the Frankfrut Airport in Germany and the Hewanorra International Airport in Saint Lucia.

“We are very delighted to be back in Saint Lucia and we would like to give our special thanks to the government of Saint Lucia, the Tourist Board and its German representatives; without their tireless efforts, I don't think the return of Condor to Saint Lucia would be possible. I am also happy to announce that we at Condor are already planning to return to Saint Lucia throughout the next summer season. I believe this commitment shows that Condor views Saint Lucia as a very important destination in the Caribbean.”

Condor has also indicated that Saint Lucia will not be a difficult sell for German travellers who are among the most travelled passengers yearly.

Harold Klees, Condor’s flight captain, says he is confident that Saint Lucia's representative in Germany, will be able to successfully market the island's tourism product, making the Condor flight a win-win situation for Saint Lucia and the airline.

“We are the biggest leisure carrier in Germany and we have thirty four aircraft that fly to seventy destinations worldwide. Last year we had seven million passengers and we are hoping to attract some more visitors to Saint Lucia because there are a lot of opportunities and I do not think it will be very difficult to promote this wonderful island – all the attractive sites and beaches of Saint Lucia.”

Negotiations between Condor and the government of Saint Lucia are ongoing in an effort to have Saint Lucia as a staple on the calendar of destinations serviced by Condor all year round.
