WILLEMSTAD - The announcement from the Executive Council of Saba that they have opted to secede from the Netherlands Antilles, has struck a nerve through out the Netherlands Antilles.
Gonzalo Cuales of Z86 Radio in Curacao stated on Tuesday that Saba's position, has been widely supported on Curacao and on Bonaire.
On Bonaire, Ramacito Booi stated that he had only wished that the island of Bonaire could have taken that decision as well. However Mr. Booi is currently leading an opposition party, the UPB.
Mr. Cuales further states that within the confines of the parties supporting the Federal Government, there is a lot of understanding for the position taken by Saba.
It is noted that the advise of the Advisory Council, is not mandatory and as such, based on the situation of the pending constitutional change, it is felt that there was no need to execute the advise.
As we hear in this PodCast report, there is another constitutional dilemma taking place on the Island of Bonaire.
