SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico - A prosecutor in the Dominican Republic says a police officer has been detained in the killings of two people who were protesting the country's rolling blackouts.

Alejandro Moscoso said the killings were still under investigation and asked that witnesses step forward. He was quoted Saturday in the newspaper Listin Diario.

Authorities said the two victims had joined a crowd that was burning tyres and threatening police with sticks and stones. Protesters blame police for the shootings. One victim was 13 years old. (AP)
