ST GEORGE'S, Grenada - Thirteen public officers on Friday received certificates of participation, after their involvement in a weeklong “Introduction to Oncology Registration” workshop.

The participants, including doctors, nurses, statisticians, and data entry clerks from the Ministries of Health and Finance, have undergone training in Cancer registration, as the Ministry of Health continues to improve its oncology services.

On Wednesday the participants said much of their expectations were being met and that the country’s oncology programme is poised to benefit significantly.

The main objective of the workshop was to understand the correlation between accurate and timely data entry and analysis relative to new cancers, new clients and treatments.

In addressing a brief closing session, the main facilitator of the work shop, Mrs. Veronica Roach, who is considered an expert in the area of cancer registration, reminded the participants of their responsibilities and reiterated the importance of confidentiality, which she said should be their number one priority.

She further stressed that accurate documentation is “critically and fundamentally important” to properly understand the severity of the disease and how it is impacting on the Ministry’s plans, programmes and resources.

Mrs. Maureen Baptiste, Senior Administrative Officer in the Ministry of Health commended the participants for having invested their time to further develop themselves and the Ministry of Health.
