Meeting in Willemstad with pharmaceutical industry

WILLEMSTAD - As part of a renewed effort to obtain preferential prices for drugs in the Netherlands Antilles, the Government of the Netherlands Antilles has organized in Willemstad a meeting for the local importers and the representatives of the international pharmaceutical industry.
The objective of the meeting by Minister Omayra Leeflang was to discuss the current situation concerning HIV and AIDS in the Netherlands Antilles and to (re)start negotiations that will lead to preferential prices for ARVs in the Netherlands Antilles.
The meeting was opened at 09:15 hours by the Minister of Public Health, mrs. Leeflang. She gave a short introduction followed by the presentation of HIV statistics in the Netherlands Antilles by the Epidemiology and Research Unit of the Public Health Services Curacao. Presentations were also given by dr. Carlos Winkel, pharmacist Francis Faulborn and Geogre Vos of the Inspectorate of Public Health.
At the meeting were present Secretary of State Patrick Illidge, representatives of the SVB, GGD, Sehos Hospital, BZV, Directie Volksgezondheid, Inspectie Geneesmiddelen and the importers Curacao Pharmacal, Manrique Capriles & Sons, Visser Trading and Oduber Agencies.
