SANTA MARIA CAY, Cuba, (PL) - Cuba and Venezuela are expected to wind up an important summit meeting on Sunday for achieving economic unity in this beach resort of northern Villa Clara province.
In five working committees at the Ensenachos Hotel, the delegations led by Vice Presidents Ricardo Cabrisas (Cuba) and Rafael Ramirez (Venezuela) advanced in identifying strategic areas for cooperation.
In Ramirez' opinion, the meeting concludes the work carried out in previous meetings and defines nearly 139 projects based on synergy and complementariness.
Under the new agreements, the working teams are scheduled to meet every three months to consolidate economic unity based on solidarity and complementariness, concepts of the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America (ALBA).
During the Santa Maria meeting, participants discussed light and heavy industries, trade, energy, and the oil and petrochemical, agriculture and mining industries.
In Cuban-Venezuelan strategic relations, special attention is given to economic, social and environmental sustainability, technological sovereignty, and the rights of both nations to determine their own progress by making the most of their potential.
Located about 217 miles east of Havana, in northern Villa Clara province, Santa Maria Cay was declared a biosphere reserve by UNESCO and is linked to the island by a 25-mile long causeway.
