Queen Elizabeth II's Birthday Celebrated

GEORGE TOWN - The Cayman Islands today (Saturday, 13 June) celebrated the birthday of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
Senior government officials gathered with other dignitaries and members of the public to observe the ceremony, held in front of the Legislative Assembly building in George Town.
The programme included the traditional parade by uniformed services, a royal salute, 21-gun salute and three cheers for Queen Elizabeth II.
MBE awards were presented to Pastor Winston Audley Rose and Mr Paul Henry Richard Smith. The Cayman Islands Certificate and Badge of Honour was also received by Dr Frances Marilyn McIntyre and Mr Brian Richard Selby Uzzell.
These four awards were announced in June 2008.
Thereafter the Honourable Chief Secretary (Designate) Donovan Ebanks MBE announced the Queen's Birthday Honourees for 2009.
Ms Edna Marie Moyle, JP is to be made an Officer of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (OBE); and Mr Michael William Needham is to receive the Colonial Police Medal. Three persons are also to receive the Cayman Islands Certificate and Badge of Honour (Cert. Hon.) -- Dr Elsa Marie Cummings, Ms Sharon Marie Martin, and Mr Julian Nicholas Reddyhough.
The ceremony was followed by a reception at Government House, hosted by His Excellency the Governor Mr. Stuart Jack CVO, and Mrs Mariko Jack.
This reception was also open to the public.
