18 Belizeans to be Honoured

BELMOPAN - Eighteen distinguished Belizeans will be honoured during this year’s Tribute to Belizean Patriots ceremony, scheduled for Thursday, September 17th at the Bliss Center for the Performing Arts. Those nominated to receive national honours and awards are:
• Order of Belize
Hon. Dean R. Lindo, SC - Recognition of his contributions to the development of party politics in Belize.
Mr. Compton Fairweather, CBE - Recognition of his service to the Belizean Community in New York.
• Order of Distinction
Dr. Kenrick R. Leslie, CBE - Recognition of his contributions to the National Meteorological Service of Belize and to the development of Meteorology and Climatology in the Caribbean.
Mr. Gregory C. Gibson - Recognition of his bravery and dedication to Public Service.
Dr. Errol G. Elrington - Recognition of his contributions to the Belizean Community in Detroit.
Captain Monrad Siegfried Metzgen, OBE, JP (posthumously) - Recognition of his dedication to Community and Public Service.
• Meritorious Service Award (Male)
Mr. Glenville Anthony Stuart - Recognition of his service to Belizeans at home and in Los Angeles.
Mr. Halston Chan, JP - Recognition of his Community Service.
Mr. Calistro Animo Caliz - Recognition of his Community Service.
Mr. Michael Lewis - Recognition of his contributions to cycling.
Mr. Godfrey Blades, Sr. - Recognition of his Community Service.
Mr. Pablo Mesh - Recognition of his contributions to Education and Library Service.
Mr. Armando Valdez - Recognition of his contributions to Education and of his Community Service.
Mr. Cesar Ismael Gomez (posthumously) - Recognition of his contributions to Business and Industry.
• Meritorious Service Award (Female)
Ms. Idalicia Melva Zetina, JP - Recognition of her Community Service.
Reverend Linda Carmita Moguel - Recognition of her contributions to Education and Community Service.
Ms. Nadia Cattouse - Recognition of her advancement of social, cultural, and political awareness among Belizeans and other Caribbean people in the UK.
Mrs. Nellie Arnold - Recognition of her Community Service.
The National Honours and Awards Act, which was passed into law on 16th August 1991, provides that each year on Independence Day, or at such other times as may be deemed expedient, honours and awards may be conferred on persons, living or dead, who have rendered outstanding and meritorious service to Belize, or who have distinguished themselves in other endeavors worthy of national recognition.
