Emancipation Day Celebrations 2010

BRIDGETOWN (BGIS) - Bridgetown and its environs will come alive with the pulsating sounds of the drums and other musical instruments, when the Ministry of Culture hosts its annual Emancipation Day Walk and Rally, on Sunday, August 1.
Acting Prime Minister, Freundel Stuart, and Minister of Community Development and Culture, Steve Blackett, will lead the procession from Independence Square, The City, from 4:00 p.m, and follow a route through districts in and around Bridgetown.
From Independence Square, the marchers will proceed along Wharf Road, turning right by the Immigration Department and on to McGregor Street, before turning left on to Lower Broad Street and proceeding to Jubilee Gardens.
The procession will then make a right by St. Mary's Church wall and proceed along Hart's Street, turning right by St. Mary's Row and continuing on to Lakes Folly. From there, the procession will then make its way to the neighbouring Chapman Lane district and then on to Kensington New Road.
The parade will then proceed to 8th Avenue New Orleans, and continue along to the junction at Westbury Primary School, turning left at Westbury Road and Westbury New Road, respectively.
The march will climax in the Emancipation Village, on Spring Garden with a cultural presentation around 5:00 p.m. jwilson@barbados.gov.bb
