BRIDGETOWN - Martinus Durrant was razor-sharp and cut likea diamond. William Prescott brought width, densityand symmetry.

In the end, the judges at Saturday night's national bodybuilding championships went for the superior condition of Durrant, who came in the form of his life to capture the coveted Mr Barbados crown for the second time.

Before an audience at the Plantation Garden Theatre that included local bodybuilding legends Darcy Beckles and Loftus Roach, Durrant took the light heavyweight class and Prescott, the heavyweight division, to set up what was to be an enthralling showdown for the overall title.

Last year's Mr Barbados Hoskins Worrell took the welterweight class, rejuvenated Owen Dottin ruled the middleweights and dynamic Patrick Harris, clinched the lightweight division, but the judges and the fans had eyes only for the shredded Durrant and the beefy Prescott in the grand posedown of champions.

"This is my best shape ever. I put in the work and the results paid off. I am happy that my condition was spot on," said St Vincent-born Durrant, who took a breakfrom competition last season.

Ripped and ready Durrant, 37, showcased impressive detail, with his sliced hamstrings and glutes, chiselled abdominals, rock hard calves, standing out.

His clubmate at Superior Fitness Gym, Ricardo "Cou Cou" Bascombe gave another solid presentation, but he was a distant second in the light heavyweight class.

Prescott, who had the benefit of International Federation of Bodybuilding (IFBB) pro Jerry Nicholls, supervising the final phase of his preparation, was a commanding winnerof the heavyweight class, from Richard Waterman andRene Griffith.

A three-time Mr Barbados, Prescott was let down by his lack of condition in his thighs. He has five weeks to get it right for the Central American And Caribbean (CAC) Championships in Grenada.

Worrell, without being at his best, had to depend on his shape and fuller look to nose out the steadily improving Laron Gibson in the welterweight division. Andy "Fish" Bispham had to settle for third.

In the welterweight class, Dottin sported trademark huge quads and arms;Therold Babb came with shape and symmetry, but lacked condition and paid the price havingto settle for second best.

The Juniors category was engrossing and showed there are some encouraging signs for the future. Ramon Broomes had the best overall package and was a clear winner. Dario Bryan and Jonathan Nana, both of whom have improved, were second and third, respectively.

In the Senior Body Fitness short class, the polished Jamila Sukunbi, a product of Foundation and Queen's College, brought style and sparkle and was a convincing winner over Heather Grimes of Oceans 2 and Rashida Belgrave of Surfside Gym.

The tall class category went to Ramona Morganof Unique Fitness with the tallest woman in the contest,Carla Nicholls, of Strike Force Gym, second andSebollina Ifill of Oceans 2, third.

Belgrave, a former Lodge School girl, prevailed in the Junior Body Fitness overNikita Robinson and Jeanna Johnson.
