Intervention by Prime Minister Spencer at G77 Minister Meeting at the United Nations
by A & B Government News

ST JOHN'S, Antigua - Mr. President, thank you for giving me the floor to make these brief remarks. I would like to congratulate the foreign Minister, H.E. Mr. Abu Bakr A. AL-Qibri and the delegation of Yemen on its election as Chair of the Group for 2010.

I pledge my delegation's full support to the delegation of Yemen throughout their chairmanship and as they discharge their duties and responsibilities as Chair of this most important Grouping of countries.

I would also like to congratulate the delegation of Sudan on its stewardship of the Group thus far, and the manner in which they have carried forward the interest of the G77 during this year. I also pledge my delegation's support to Sudan for the remainder of its tenure as Chair during the current 64th session of the GA.

I encourage the Group, under our current and future Chairs, to continue pressing on in carrying forward the agenda of developing countries here in the United Nations, and to continue working in the interest of all developing countries who are proud to be members of this group, and to do so taking in to account our diversity both in terms of size and level of economic development; remembering that what unites us is greater than what divides us. This is crucial in these very challenging economic times when we all, small and large, face multiple challenges, not the least of which is climate change and the economic crisis.

Mr. President you have my best wishes and highest regard.

Thank you.
